Fiscal Leadership

One of the hardest things our elected officials must do is bring the various arms of government together to work for our benefit. When they do this in a way that minimizes the citizens’ tax burden, as Highland Park City Councilman Jim Kirsch has, there is no better way.

As a resident of Highland Park for more than 50 years and a member of its Business and Economic Development Commission, I have seen Jim’s talent at work first hand. In particular, he has toiled very hard facilitating a joint effort with the Commission and the CBD Alliance, a downtown business group, to bring solid retail merchants to Highland Park.

The beauty of this effort is it increases the city’s sales tax revenue and while keeping our property taxes as low as possible. This is an example of how Jim Kirsch thinks things through and gives good advice as a member of the City Council. We should all thank him for his effort.
