Phone Warning System

When I received a recorded telephone call at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning from the Highland Park Police Department informing me a local teenage girl was missing, I was frightened for the girl and her family.

As a Highland Park citizen, I was also pleased our police could reach every citizen in town so fast. I have also learned we have City Councilman Jim Kirsch, among others, to thank for that.

After further inquiry, I found out this would not have been possible four years ago when Highland Park had to inform its residents of a boil order for our water. Councilman Kirsch found a private contractor to accomplish in four minutes what would have taken the city 30 hours to do so no one would become ill from contaminated water.

More important, Jim went to work with the telecommunications commission to make sure this would not be a problem again. He and the commission worked with the city staff to develop a system to instantly contact us in an emergency.

Our city now has the ability to inform all of us about an emergency in minutes as evidenced by the call putting our whole community on the lookout for the missing teenager. We need to keep leaders like Jim Kirsch on the City Council. Please join me voting to reelect Jim April 7.
